Pioneering Proteobiotics

The MicroSintesis team is uniquely qualified, and dedicated to taking the lead in proteobiotics innovation.

The faces behind the science:

Hannah McIver

CEO

For Hannah McIver, the convergence of business, science, agriculture and animal health is as inevitable as it is natural. Raised on a farm in England, she studied biomedicine at the University of Guelph before she and her sister Alison founded, (and subsequently sold) Agribiotics, a company specializing in research and production of microbial products for agriculture. With MicroSintesis, Hannah’s strong sense of mission (the Toronto Star calls her a “serial entrepreneur”) is now focused on making MicroSintesis a leader in the science of proteobiotics.

Dr. Mansel Griffiths

Chief Scientific Officer

As the founding scientist and Chief Scientific Officer for MicroSintesis, Dr. Griffiths leads the R&D team and sets the strategic research objectives for the company. He is highly active in the food science world, serving on the advisory board for many international food companies and as editor for a number of distinguished international journals.

Donna Costa

Board Member, Strategy and Manufacturing

Donna Costa knows all about “firsts.” As President of Mitsubishi Chemical Holdings America, Inc.—the first American President of the Americas headquarters, she is also the only woman President in the Mitsubishi Chemical Holdings Group. She serves as a board member for several companies from Japan and Brazil to the United States. To the MicroSintesis team she brings 20 years of experience in C-suite positions across a range of industry sectors.

“What attracted me? I was particularly impressed by the potential of proteobiotics as a platform technology.”

– Edouard Dufour

Edouard Dufour strengthens our team through his passion for the MicroSintesis vision and his extensive strategic financial experience. He’s Senior Manager at Natixis Canada, in charge of developing Global Markets activities. Edouard spent 14 years in banking management, with two decades of capital market experience across a range of multi-national corporations. Before joining Natixis’ Americas Platform from its Paris Head Office, he served as Global Head of Structured Finance Hedging.

“Our technology has the potential to be a market disruptor.”

– Warren Libby

Warren Libby

Strategy Advisor

Warren’s strength as a strategic thinker draws from his four decades of experience. That includes his service as president of Syngenta Crop Protection (formerly Novartis), the largest supplier of crop protection products in the world. He went on to become General Manager and co-owner of Engage Agro Inc., a supplier of agricultural and animal health products in Canada. His expertise in strategic planning, operational management, marketing and business development helped grow Engage into one of Canada’s leading specialty chemical organizations.

“I’m excited about creating a new class of product that’s both natural and backed by scientific research.”

Jonathon Roepke

Research Lead in Product Development

With his extensive background in molecular biology and metabolic engineering, Dr. Roepke earned his Masters degree in Plant Biotechnology at Brock University, and more recently a PhD in Plant Agriculture at the University of Guelph. His passion for natural product chemistry stems from the idea that we can use biotechnology to harness nature for human and animal health.

Monica Cella

Analytical Research Scientist

It was the forward-thinking spirit of MicroSintesis that drew Monica to our team, and both her training and experience that make her a great fit. Her sense of innovation and problem-solving skills flow from her background is in microbiology, engineering, and biotechnology, and informed by years of research experience. Monica studied at UBC, where she earned her Masters degree in Applied Science, Civil Engineering (Environmental Specialization).

Yuming Bai

Fermentation Researcher

For 15 years, Dr. Bai has amassed considerable experience in research, industrial production and teaching. Prior to earning his PhD at McGill, he lectured the at Department of Life Science at China’s Shanxi University, where he was honoured with the Excellence Faculty Member award, and named Provincial Outstanding Young Scientist. He has gone on to work extensively in agricultural bioscience.
